Hong Kong Virtual University (HKVU)
Hong Kong Virtual University (HKVU) is a project funded by UGC's Restructuring and Collaboration Fund with participating institutions including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, City University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, the Hong Kong Institute of Education and the University of Hong Kong.

Its objective is to establish a common, network virtual campus for connecting the local tertiary institutions and to provide students with a wider range of subject choices and greater flexibility in terms of time and location for the delivery of lectures.

Talented Youth Certificate Program
The Certificate Program (CP) offers various courses which are developed based on regular university courses being offered at local institutions. This program aims at enabling academically talented secondary school students to explore, discover, develop and enrich their interests in advanced subjects. It is also articulated by an Accelerated Credit Program (ACP) which offers capable students an option to earn official credits for further recognization of their achievements.

Course Delivery Format
The program is mainly conveyed within an online learning environment. Lectures are delivered in the form of videocast which allows multiple viewing and revision at anytime, anywhere. A discussion forum integrated within the online learning environment will be provided to facilitate communication among students and teaching staff. Students are required to perform online tasks, such as worksheets and programming lab sheets, regularly for monitoring their study progress and assessment of their accomplishment towards designated learning objectives. Face-to-face tutorial sessions will be arranged during the study period. Students may also have the opportunities to broaden their horizons by enjoying distinguished lectures delivered by worldwide distinguished speakers.

Assessment
Upon completion of the required course tasks, a student is entitled to receive a certificate of accomplishment of the course attended. Certificate holders may enroll in advanced courses for further exploration in a specific area of study. Certificate holders may also have an option to take part in the Accelerated Credit Program (ACP) for earning credits which are recognized towards their future studies in tertiary institutions.

Application procedures for Talented Youth Certificate Program

Students:
  1. Complete the online registration form and print out the acknowledgement note generated by the system.
  2. Please make a cheque HK$300 payable to “HKUST” (HK$150 will be charged only for students who have full remission financial aid in school) and put your name at the back of the cheque.
  3. Submit the printed acknowledgement note together with a photocopy of your HKID card and cheque to get endorsement from your school teacher on or before 26th November 2007. (Late application will be considered before 3rd December 2007)

    Important note:
    we only accept applications which have been endorsed by the principal/teacher with all documents staple together.



Application Deadline: 26th November 07

Teachers:
  1. Fill in your contact information and endorse all acknowledgement notes from your students
  2. Collect all required documents including acknowledgement notes, photocopies of HKID cards and cheque
