The Hong Kong Virtual University (HKVU) Program is a collaborative project funded by UGC's Restructuring and Collaboration Fund. The objectives of this program are to provide a networked virtual campus for connecting the local tertiary institutions and to provide students with a wider range of subject choices and greater flexibility in learning provision. HKVU offers a wide range of courses jointly provided by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the City University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, the Hong Kong Institute of Education, and The University of Hong Kong. The continued operation of the HKVU program is currently supported by several teaching and learning projects in HKUST. The program is now extended to offer different online programs for secondary and primary school students.
HOW HKVU THRIVES OVER TIME
OUR HISTORY
Since 2001, over a hundred schools were participating in the project such as Canadian Int'l School, Diocesan Girl's School, King's College, La Salle College, Marymount School, Pui Ching Middle School, St. Paul's Convent School, Wah Yan College to name a few.
OUR COURSE DELIVERY
The HKVU courses are delivered in the form of blended learning mode - an effective learning approach by integrating face-to-face and online media. Such an approach allows students to study anytime, anywhere and at their own pace, but yet preserves face-to-face interactions between students and instructors.
OUR LEARNING PLATFORM
Typically lecture materials and learning aids are delivered via the use of learning management systems including eLearning Open Platform (eLOP), Open Canvas and HKMOOC supported by HKVU. Tutorials and laboratory classes in contrast are conducted through face-to-face meetings.
